Losing a pet is extremely sad and something that most everyone can relate with. I think about my dog, Callie, and how big of a part she is in my life and the thought of losing her breaks my heart. Pets are special and have a special place in their owners hearts. Well this past Tuesday, our family dog, Macy, passed away. Macy was diagnosed with cancer in April 2012. The vet gave her only a week to live, so in April my parents and my brothers met at our house to say goodbye to Macy. It was an incredibly emotional goodbye. My parents decided to give Macy a round of chemo to prolong her life a little since the diagnosis was so soon and she had so little time left. Well 10 months after her first dose she was still chasing squirrels! The vet was amazed at how healthy Macy seemed and how long she was living. She wasn't in pain and was still enjoying life. This time allowed everyone to say their proper goodbyes and get used to the fact that Macy wasn't going to be with us forever. We all accepted that fact and were prepared. Macy made it through Christmas- thank goodness. A few weeks ago the lumps under her neck came back and my parents knew her time was coming to a close. She would have good days and bad days but never was in pain. Last Saturday my brother visited and Macy was having a bad day but when I visited on Sunday she had good day. I am so thankful that I went to visit on Sunday. It was just my mom and I and the dogs. We spent all day walking with the dogs (Macy, Callie, and the neighbors 2 dogs). We were only inside for maybe an hour, other than that we were at the creek, on top of the hill, by the garden, or siting on the rocking chairs out front. Macy does this thing were she winks at you; she will also wink if you wink at her. When I left Macy winked at me. On Tuesday Macy passed away in my moms arms outside under the stars. Macy was a loyal and loving dog who lived a good life taking care of her family.
